The newest village
This is Gobernadora Canyon; the valley that the Portola expedition traveled through as they guided Father Serra on his search for locations to build missions.
In the distance is Saddleback Mountain, and at the foot of Saddleback is Trabuco Canyon, named for a blunderbuss that was lost by one of Portola's men.
I was glad to paint this valley back before the new neighborhood was put in. The actual hill I stood on to paint this painting, is now gone. That is just how it works.
